In the Optimization-based Control Group at the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the Technische Universität Ilmenau (Germany) is a vacancy for a

Scientific Assistant (f/m/d)

as soon as possible.

Your task will involve working on a doctoral project on the topic of LPV approximations of nonlinear systems for controller design. The main idea is to design linear but parameter-dependent approximations of nonlinear systems, incorporating model order reduction and control theory. The objective is to develop a general method for nonlinear feedback control of large-scale or even infinitedimensional systems. This project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), which means that there is a clearly outlined, positively evaluated, and promising path to the success of the overall project at the candidate’s disposal.

One of the goals of the project is the academic qualification of the candidate until completion of the Ph.D. in Mathematics. Relevant support, in addition to the direct supervision by Dr. Jan Heiland, is provided through the group of Prof. Karl Worthmann with, among others, currently 5 PhD students.

Your tasks

The position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Scientific work on the project and other joint research endeavors
  • Scientific exchange e.g. through the participation in research seminars or conferences
  • Optionally, the working hours can be increased in order to take on teaching duties

    Your profile

For being part of the selection process is needed:

    • Academic university degree (Diploma (Univ.) or Master) in Mathematics or a related field

A successful candidate, for example, possesses fundamental knowledge or a strong interest in one or more of the following areas:

    • Systems and Control
    • Differential Equations
    • Numerical Linear Algebra
    • Modeling and Simulation of Dynamic Systems

Depending on the inclination towards practical implementation, programming tasks in Python or Matlab may be involved.

Please provide evidence of the qualifications required for the job by certificates and references.

        What we offer you:

        • attractive remuneration according to collective agreement (as per TV-L) incl. granting of a special annual payment
