The Group of Materials for Electrical Engineering and Electronics in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Ilmenau offers the following open position in a DFG research project as

research associate (PhD position) (f/m/d)

Suitable candidates are expected to have the desire to gain further scientific qualifications (doctorate).

Your tasks

  • Collaboration in a DFG research project on 2D and 3D material morphologies for reactive microjoining in electronics
  • Preparation of thin films, multilayers and nanostructures
  •  Material characterization using various methods (e.g. SEM, FIB, XRD, TEM, electrical, mechanical and thermal properties, etc.)
  • Investigation of material properties
  • Correlation of microstructure with material properties
  • Evaluation and presentation of results and their scientific exploitation, e.g. in publications, reports, talks, international conferences.

Your profile

  • you have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies (master's, diploma or equivalent) in materials science and engineering, electrical engineering, physics, chemistry, or similar fields
  • Extensive knowledge of materials science and engineering or in the field of production and application of materials, or material characterization, or materials simulations
  • Motivation and ability for scientific working
  • Independent and responsible way of working
  • Ability to communicate and to work in a team
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English (knowledge of German is an advantage but not necessary).
