At the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the TU Ilmenau, the Advanced Electromagnetics Group seeks to fill a position within the project "Memristive Materials for Neuromorphic Electronics - MemWerk" (www.memwerk.de , funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung over 5 years) as

research associate (PhD position) (f/m/d)

Suitable candidates are expected to have the desire to gain further scientific qualifications (doctorate).

Your tasks

  • Working in the MemWerk project (www.memwerk.de) on memristive materials
  • Development of lumped device models for network and system simulation for the evaluation of material and design variants,
  • Modeling of neuromorphic/ memristive devices based on different materials
  • Simulation and design of neuromorphic circuits based on the above devices and design of peripheral electronics modules,
  • Electrical and functional characterization of neuromorphic components and circuits from these devices
  • Evaluation and presentation of results and their scientific exploitation, e.g. in publications, reports, talks, international conferences.
  • Constructive cooperation with the MemWerk team and intensive collaboration with its members.


Your profile

  • you have a level of education which corresponds to completed university studies (master's, diploma or equivalent) in Electrical engineering / information technology, technical physics, or similar fields
  • extensive knowledge and practical experience in electronic circuit technology, modeling and simulation of non-linear electronic devices and circuits, in the design of integrated structures,
  • desirable experience with neuromorphic circuit concepts and memristive and superconducting structures,
  • Motivation and ability for scientific working
  • Independent and responsible way of working
  • Ability to communicate and to work in a Team.
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English (knowledge of German is an advantage but not necessary).
