SUNRISE Project Manager (f/m/d)



as soon as possible.

SUNRISE is an alliance of nine European universities that is currently being established and coordinated at TU Ilmenau. The participants aim to cooperate closely in the areas of teaching, research and transfer. SUNRISE stands for ‘Smaller (Strategic) University Network for Regional Innovative and Sustainable Evolution’.

The alliance is funded by the EU Commission as a European University Alliance from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2028.

As SUNRISE Project Manager, you will independently coordinate the development and establishment of the necessary structures of the SUNRISE University Alliance and operate in an attractive, European networked working environment. As a convincing personality with experience in the German and/or European higher education and science system, you will promote networking with the European partner universities and associated partner institutions on a contentrelated and strategic level. In your day-to-day work at the Research Service and Technology Transfer Unit, you will coordinate with your team and be supported by a project assistant.

Your tasks

The position comprises two areas of responsibility, each with the following areas of responsibility. You will work in a team with two other colleagues and the project assistant:

Development of the European University Alliance SUNRISE and overall coordination at the TU Ilmenau (50%)

  • Specification of the measures and strategies envisaged in the SUNRISE project application
  • Establishment of strategic processes that serve the development of the SUNRISE alliance at the TU Ilmenau
  • Independent development of complex strategies suitable to achieve the SUNRISE alliance’s goals
  • Participation in the communication and dissemination strategy for SUNRISE and support of the associated activities.
  • Evaluation of project results and preparation of decision papers for the Steering Committee or other committees to ensure the success of the project in coordination with the overall project management

Assumption of deputy tasks at the Department of Research Services and Technology Transfer until the end of the SUNRISE project duration (50%)

  • (Further) development of strategic processes for the establishment of national and international research cooperations, including indepth detailed knowledge of the research topics in the subject areas of the TU Ilmenau
  • Independent development of highly complex project design proposals in cross-institutional research networks
  • Independent recommendations for the concrete implementation of planning details in research projects to be developed
  • Thematic and strategic support in the preparation of trade and industry fair exhibitions
  • Support in researching existing networks and funding formats

    Your profile

    For being part of the selection process is needed:

    • Completed university degree (state examination, diploma (university), master's degree) in a degree programme relevant to the position (e.g. industrial engineering, economics, administration, law, natural sciences or engineering), preferably also with a doctorate
    • Many years of professional experience (min. 3 years)

    Following competences are desirable:

    • Proven German language skills at C1 level, written and spoken
    • Sound experience in the realisation of (scientific) projects
    • Knowledge and practical experience in scientific research, especially in the independent processing of research projects
    • Business fluent in English
    • Professional experience in academic/scientific project management
      • Knowledge of project control and management
      • Knowledge and experience in the field of cooperation with external partners
      • Basic knowledge of how universities work, knowledge of the typical committees of a university
      • Experience in the critical evaluation of project results
      • Experience in the written documentation and dissemination of project progress
      • Experience in day-to-day communication between scientists in (large-scale) research projects
    • Knowledge of success monitoring and evaluation of processes (controlling)
    • Knowledge of organisational development is an advantage
    • Knowledge of and experience with science communication and associated techniques (classic and social media etc.)
    • Experience in voluntary, social, cultural or political commitment (living European values)
    • Willingness to travel on business
