At the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the TU Ilmenau, the Group of Micro- and Nanoelectronic Systems seeks to fill a position within the project "Memristive Materials for Neuromorphic Electronics - MemWerk" (, funded by the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung over 5 years) as

research associate (PhD position) (f/m/d)

Suitable candidates are expected to have the desire to gain further scientific qualifications (doctorate).

Your tasks

  • Working in the MemWerk project ( on memristive materials and devices.
  • Research on memristive devices based on two-dimensional materials.
  • Electrical/electronic characterization of memristive devices and circuits using such devices.
  • Elaboration of modeling concepts to describe the operation of memristive devices and development of physics-based scalable compact models.
  • Modeling, simulation, and design of memristive devices.
  • Analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results and their scientific exploitation, e.g. in publications, reports, talks at international conferences.
  • Constructive cooperation with the MemWerk team and intensive collaboration with its members

Your profile

  • You have a level of education, which corresponds to completed university studies (master's degree, diploma, or equivalent) in electrical engineering, electronics, physics, or similar fields.
  • Extensive knowledge of semiconductor electronics, solid-state physics, and electronic devices.
  • Knowledge of and experiences in measurement technology and characterization of electronic devices.
  • Knowledge of modeling and simulation of electronic devices. Preferable are experiences in programming (e.g., C, Matlab) and numerical device simulation (e.g., ATLAS).
  • Motivation and ability for scientific working.
  • Ability to communicate and to work in a Team.
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken English (knowledge of German is an advantage but not necessary)
