In the interdisciplinary research field of technical biology, biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry and the engineering sciences with special beam effect into classical biotechnology, an essential research subject is the investigation of the influence of physicochemical and biophysical factors on the generation of stem cell niches or the differentiation behavior of cells with the aim of supporting the modeling of diseases ("disease models") by the appropriate design of substrates/interfaces.
Proven expertise in working with stem cells as well as experience with genetic engineering work are prerequisites. Experience in the field of electroactive cells, preferably neurons, and knowledge of electrophysiology, preferably in a medical environment, would be desirable. It is expected of the candidate with a doctorate to actively support the close cooperation between the Ilmenau site and the Institute for Bioprocess and Analytical Measurement Technology e.V. Heilbad Heiligenstadt (iba).
The research profile "Disease Modelling" of the institute is interdisciplinary and focuses on the engineering of molecular and cellular procedures for personalized medicine. The habilitation during this research phase is expected. An active participation in the acquisition of third-party funds is expected as well as the acquisition of the research group members. To guide doctoral students and students up to the doctorate to independent, scientific work is also part of the requirement profile.
Furthermore, it is part of the job description to support the department in teaching tasks and internships in the field of molecular biology and biochemistry in German language.
The university stands in the fields of technology, mathematics and natural sciences, business and media for teaching and research at the highest level.
