The Institute of Mathematics, Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Technische Universität Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau), invites applications for a

 Junior Professorship (W1)

„Differential Equations“ (f/m/d)

to be filled by 1st of September 2022 or later.

We are looking for an early career researcher with an outstanding international research record. The research focus is in the area of differential equations, with relations to several oft he areas of evolution equations, differential-algebraic equations, systems theory, coupled, dissipative and port-Hamiltonian systems, operator theory and closed-loop control. Connections to multibody and electrodynamics are a plus, as well as to the research focusses of the TU Ilmenau in engineering, science and economics. The research focus of the professur should add to the existing expertise of the groups "Systems Theory and Partial Differential Equations", „Applied Functional Analysis“ and „Optimization-based Control“ at the Institute of Mathematics.

The professor will offer courses at the Institute of Mathematics, in particular by giving lectures at the bachelor’s and master’s level for students of „Mathematics“ and „Technical Cybernetics and Systems Theory“ on analysis, mathematical systems theory and differential equations. It is further expected that the professor is willing to give mathematical courses for students of physics and engineering sciences.

The requirements are excellent scientific achievements as evidenced by the outstanding quality of the PhD thesis and publications. Experience in teaching university lectures for mathematics courses, excellent teaching skills, acquisition of third party funding and the willingness to actively participate in academic self-administration are desired. The requirements for employment according to § 82 ThürHG (Thuringia’s Higher Education Act) must be fulfilled. The employment is initially for a period of 3 years with a final extension of 3 years after successful evaluation (no tenure track).
