Junior Professorship (W1) with Tenure Track „Functional Materials“

The Technische Universität Ilmenau, Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Functional Materials, to be filled from October 2020. The professorship is based in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering. However, it is expected that the successful person also cooperate intensively with all institutes within the department as well as with the cross-departmental institutes (e.g. IMN MacroNano®,www.macronano.de, IEAU, ThIMo) and to participate intensively in research cooperations at the TU Ilmenau.

We are looking for an internationally recognized young researcher with excellent didactic skills. The future holder of the position shall comprehensively represent the field of functional materials in research and teaching. Topics may lie in electrical engineering, energy engineering, sensor technology, power engineering and similar fields.

We welcome applications from scientists with research experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Functional thin films, coatings and surfaces
  • Nanomaterials (e.g. plasmonic materials)
  • electronic materials, e.g. memristive materials or power electronic materials
  • Sensor materials (chemical, optical, magnetic, etc.)
  • Materials for energy conversion or actuator materials (e.g. thermoelectric, piezoelectric, magnetostrictive, shape memory, etc.).
  • Experience in the analysis and characterization of materials

In addition to indepth research topics in the abovementioned areas, contributions to the comprehensive and fundamental teaching of functional materials are expected for the course portfolio. Ability to lecture in English is required. After a transition period of several years, the ability to offer courses also in German language must be acquired. Essential requirements are pedagogical aptitude and the willingness to make a significant contribution to the further development of the study programs and study contents. The future holder of a position should actively participate in the academic self-administration.

This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States (https://www.tenuretrack.de/en/the-tenure-track-programme/the-federal-government-lander-programme). The recruitment requirements and conditions of § 89 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act apply. The position is associated with a tenure track appointment to a W3 professorship.
